Bringing the 1001 Lights projection-installation, which emphasizes the power of ritual, words, and movement across the boundaries of history and place, to Germany has been an enriching experience of cross-cultural impact. The act of remembering creates a complex network of connections between past, present and future. To understand that our immersive work is having profound social and cultural impact is momentous.

Through Tanzrauschen, the Wuppertal-based association established to support the mediation and presentation of dance film, a 10-city tour was organized, starting in April 2021 and continuing into the present including exhibitions in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern at the Klosterfestival Rehna (August 2021); Wuppertal for a Pop-Up exhibition (January 2022); the Lichthof Theater in Hamburg (April 2022); Im Dialograum Kreuzung an St. Helena in Bonn (May 2022); Brotfabrik Overbeck 1904 / Atelier Cyrus Overbeck in Dusiberg (May 2022); Kinemathek Karlsruhe (June 2022); at the Ehemalige Synagoge, now a cultural centre, in Gelnhausen (June 2022); the Evangelische Akademie Frankfurt (June 2022); the cinema in der Pumpe – Kommunales Kino Kiel (June 2022), as well as Schwelm (December 2022-February 2023) These exhibitions were produced under the aegis of the German federal funding programme titled 1700 Years of Jewish Life in Germany.

In many of these venues, associated activities and community outreach events, plus music concerts and performances, were also programmed during the course of the exhibition’s run.
